| What are The Dead Weather up to? | The Dead Weather have been quiet for some time. With their last tour wrapping up late last year, you might be wondering what the band are up to.
Jack White has been busy with his label, Third Man Records, producing many records by an array of artists. He recently produced a single for upcoming British artist Laura Marling, a covers record by "queen of rockabilly" Wanda Jackson, and the debut record from his wife, Karen Elson, titled "The Ghost Who Walks".
Alison Mosshart has reunited with Jamie Hince for The Kills' fourth studio album, titled "Blood Pressure". The band is currently touring the UK in support of the album.
Dean Fertita has released a record of material, written in collaboration with ex-Raconteurs band-mate Brendan Benson. The album is titled "Hello=Fire", which is also the artist name for Fertita's project, making this a 'self titled' album of sorts.
Jack Lawrence's band The Greenhornes released their fourth studio album late last year, titled '****' (four stars). The album is their first in eight years, produced by the band and Jack White, and released on Jack White's label 'Third Man Records'.
Although The Dead Weather have no plans to release new material any time soon, Dean Fertita commented that "Everything seems to happen by accident, so who knows -- maybe we'll have a record together in another two weeks. I think we all love the way it works, so I don't see any reason why we wouldn't try to keep it going at some point.". [1]

The White Stripes break up | "The White Stripes would like to announce that today, February 2nd, 2011, their band has officially ended and will make no further new recordings or perform live.
The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health.
It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve What is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way.
Meg and Jack want to thank every one of their fans and admirers for the incredible support they have given throughout the 13 plus years of the White Stripes' intense and incredible career.
Third Man Records will continue to put out unreleased live and studio recordings from The White Stripes in their Vault Subscription record club, as well as through regular channels."

Read the complete announcement on the OFFICIAL WHITE STRIPES WEBSITE.

The White Stripes are reuniting | It has recently be announced that The White Stripes have broken up.
With two records under their belt and extensive touring, it seems The Dead Weather are finally taking a well-deserved break. It won't be long, however, until we see new records from Dead Weather members Jack White, Alison Mosshart and Dean Fertita in their respective bands The White Stripes, The Kills and Queens of the Stone Age.
In this month's edition of Vanity Fair, Mr. White was interviewed for the promotion of a Stripes-centric box set (featuring a record player, headphones, and cases to insert your purchases of rereleased vinyl). At the very end of the interview, when asked about the first three Stripes records coming out on vinyl, he drops a bomb:
"We thought we'd do a lot of things that we'd never done: a full tour of Canada, a documentary, coffee-table book, live album, a boxed set. It was one long project that took almost three years. Now that we've gotten a lot of that out of our system, Meg and I can get back in the studio and start fresh."
While Jack has been silent about a White Stripes reunion for quite a while now, the timing seems perfect. His Dead Weather bandmates Dean Fertita and Alison Mosshart are busy working on new albums (for Queens Of The Stone Age and The Kills, respectively). Meanwhile, the rhythm section for The Raconteurs, Jack Lawrence & Patrick Keeler, finally returned to The Greenhornes, having just released their long-awaited fourth album.

August 19, 2010 | A recent interview at Spinner.com has Jack White clarifying the reasoning behind The Dead Weather's 2nd Album title 'Sea of Cowards':
"You've mentioned that 'Sea of Cowards' is a reference to the state of criticism on the Internet ..."
"The Internet thing kind of got blown out of proportion. That was just a comment I made as part of a bigger discussion on the word "coward." The title came about because the lyrics on the album had a lot to do with cowardice. It was an idea that kept on popping up when I was listening to the mixdown. I was explaining to Alison that since a lot of the themes of the songs are about cowardice, maybe we should have the word "coward" in the title of the album.
Later, we were having a conversation with some journalist about the way the Internet breeds cowardice nowadays -- how everyone has a fake name, no one shows their face, everyone is extremely judgmental, extremely harsh to each other, commenting and blogging all this stuff. The world is their oyster now, they can type whatever they want, and they don't present themselves as a human being, they present themselves as an avatar and as a screen name, and that's cowardly.
We wouldn't waste our time writing about the Internet."

Also it seems a video for the lead single 'Die By The Drop' has already been made, and we can expect it soon.
